How can I Check my Aadhaar Card Status by SMS?
One of the ways you can obtain the status of your Aadhaar card is by the short message service. Checking the Aadhaar status can be especially useful for those without access to a computer or an internet connection or those who are computer illiterate. This SMS query service is provided by UIDAI – Unique Identification Authority of India. UIDAI does not charge a fee for the service. Your mobile service provider will however charge you. The charge might either be at the standard rate or premium rate.
When using SMS to query the Aadhaar card status it is important to ensure that your mobile phone number is registered first. If it is not registered your request will be denied. This mobile phone number also needs to be the same one you indicated on your Aadhaar card application form. This means you cannot use a mobile phone that does not belong to you to check the application status of an Aadhaar card.
To find out your Aadhaar card status by SMS you also require to have the enrolment number. This enrolment number can be found on the acknowledgement slip received after you submitted the Aadhaar card application.
Steps in checking Aadhar card status by SMS
Go to the messaging facility of your mobile phone.
Compose a message starting with the words ‘UID STATUS’ in capital letters followed by the enrolment ID in closed tags. Since the enrolment number appears with slashes, when you are composing the message all the slashes should be removed. Using a fictitious enrolment ID number the message should appear as follows:
UID STATUS <39052647206168>
Once you have composed a message similar to the above send it to 51969.
In the event that your Aadhaar card has not been generated you will get its current status. This could be a message telling you that the process is ongoing and you will have to wait a little longer. Generally in most cases an Aadhaar card takes about three months to be generated.
On the other hand if your Aadhaar card has been generated already you will get a congratulatory message letting you know it is ready and will be delivered to you in due course.
Besides checking the status of your Aadhaar card via a text message, it is also possible to do it online.
